REBELLIOUS IDEA - R + J WEDDING
----------------
In college, one of the wedding themes that I thought of and dreamed of, was a Baz Luhrman Moulin Rouge wedding. Not only did I love that movie, I thought it made for a very dramatic, romantic, and crazy wedding theme full of bohemian details mixed in with a lot of Montmarte rebelliousness and excessiveness, and of course "love--overcoming all obstacles". If a Moulin Rouge theme is something that appeals to you as well, here are some ideas that might pump you up :)
THE FASHION
How about a gorgeous red bridal gown for the ceremony? |
And a silver & black ensemble for the reception? |
The Bride as "Satine"
Satine, as played by Nicole Kidman is the celebrated and glorified poster girl of the Moulin Rouge. She is a "smoldering temptress" who makes all the boys ca-razy! Why not wear a beautiful red gown during the ceremony, then change into a silver & black, sparkly outfit for the reception, reminiscent of Satine's opening number at the Moulin?
And what better way to update the "Moulin Rouge look" than with the ultimate Parisian chic, temptress pumps that is Christian Louboutin.
The Groom as "Christian"
Would you rather see your groom in a dashing, Parisian gentleman outfit? |
Or a romantic, laidback, bohemian writer? |
Have your entourage dolled up with Parisian inspired hats and dramatic make-up |
The "Moulin Rouge Girls"
The entourage can have an updated "Moulin Rouge" look with colorful corset gowns, and wonderful Parisian inspired hats.

THE ELEMENTS
"La Boheme"
Moulin Rouge celebrates everything and anything that is bohemian. The principles or doctrine that bohemians upheld in those days are always incorporated creatively in the movie. These are the words: Freedom, Beauty, Truth, and Love. Words that can definitely be included in invites, table decors, and set design.
Toulouse-Lautrec was a celebrated Bohemian painter who even had a tribute role in the movie. He was a known Moulin Rouge frequent guest and made a lot of paintings that celebrated Moulin's hey days. Print out his artwork and include in your props, to create an even more authentic vibe.
"Passion, Windmills, and an Elephant"
"I am The Green Fairy!"
Another element that can be incorporated in the wedding, in keeping with the Moulin Rouge theme is the "Green Fairy" as portrayed by Kylie Minogue. "The Green Fairy" is actually a reference to Absinthe--the "unofficial" drink of the Bohemians. Serving Absinthe in the wedding is the ultimate epitome of rebelliousness! Awesome!!!
THE MUSIC
The following music, can most definitely be used in various aspects of the wedding---from the bridal entrance, to your very own prenup video, or even for a special number!
How about Your Song as the Bridal Entrance?
Or the Love Medley as a Prenup Video?
And of course, Lady Marmalade - How about the Bride and her girls performing a surprise number?
And then the guys performing their own surprise number!
